The Speaker, Delta House of Assembly, Mr Dennis Guwor has said that the House would continue to enlist security and welfare of the people as top priority in its legislative agenda.
Guwor gave the assurance on Tuesday at plenary after Easter break.
He said that the Assembly was committed to infrastructural and human capital development in the state.
”We have leveraged the power of appropriation to collaborate with the Executive arm of government to deliver unprecedented development to the state .
”Our youth and women have benefited from various empowerment programmes and schemes derived from appropriations by the House.
“As a House, we have demonstrated a strong commitment to our duties of lawmaking. Before the Easter break, the House considered, processed, and passed several critical transformative bills into law,” he said.
According to him,Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori, has assented to seven of the bills, which include; Delta State Physical And Regional Planning Law, 2024; Delta State Film And Video Censor’s Board Law, 2024 and Delta State Electric Power Sector Law, 2024.
“Others are Registration And Regulation of Private Veterinary Clinics (Amendment) Law, 2024; Child Rights (Amendment) Law, 2024; Delta State Pet Control And Responsible Ownership Law, 2025; and Delta State College of Health Technology Ovrode Law, 2025.”
He lauded the legislators for the feat and urged them to sustain the high standard and even surpass it.
He urged the legislators to work towards considering other pending bills before end of the second session.
”I trust the committee chairmen and members will assiduously consider and turn in their reports on bills referred to their committees,” he stated.
He, however, described the recent defection of PDP members to APC as reflection of the overall interest of the state’s citizens.
”It was an outcome of wider consultation across a broad spectrum of political stakeholders.
”We are committed to aligning with the Federal Government to deliver more development to the state,” Guwor said.
