The Delta House of Assembly, on Tuesday, resumed plenary, promising renewed commitment to legislative excellence, transparency, and the pursuit of policies aimed at improving the welfare of the people.
In an opening remark, the Speaker, Mr Dennis Guwor, detailed the assembly’s legislative roadmap for the year.
Guwor outlined the promotion of economic growth, ensuring peace and security, and advancing social welfare initiatives, among other priorities of the state legislature.
He expressed profound gratitude to God for granting members safe journeys, good health, and the opportunity to reconvene after the Christmas and New Year recess.
The speaker, who extended warm New Year felicitations to his colleagues and assembly workers, urged them to approach the year with renewed energy, dedication and shared sense of responsibility.
He specifically reaffirmed the assembly’s commitment to passing people-oriented bills and adopting strategic resolutions that would strengthen governance, promote transparency, and ensure prudent management of public resources.
“The diligence of our committees in engaging Ministries, Departments and Agencies underscores our collective commitment to advancing the welfare and aspirations of the people of Delta,” he said.
Acknowledging the performance of the Executive, the speaker commended Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori for his exemplary leadership and dedication to the development of the state.
He particularly referenced the governor’s recent groundbreaking for a flyover bridge at Otovwodo Junction in Ughelli North LGA as a “tangible demonstration of good governance and infrastructure development”.
“The harmonious working relationship between the legislature and the executive, anchored on mutual respect and a shared vision, remains a cornerstone of our achievements,” Guwor said.
He assured the governor of the Assembly’s continued support through sound legislation and constructive oversight.
Guwor urged his colleagues to approach the remaining sittings of the Third Session of the House with unity, constructive engagement, and unwavering commitment to the collective interest of the people.
“Let our debates be robust but respectful, and let our decisions be guided solely by the welfare of our people,” he said.
