Former Senate President, Senator (Dr) David A. B. Mark, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ending his decades-long association with the party. In a resignation letter dated June 27, 2025, and addressed to the PDP chairman in Otukpo Ward 1, Benue State, Mark cited persistent internal divisions, leadership crises, and irreconcilable differences as reasons for his exit.
“I write to formally inform you of my decision to resign my membership of the party with immediate effect,” he stated, recalling his loyalty even after the PDP’s loss in the 2015 presidential election, when many others had already left. He described his efforts in helping rebuild and reposition the PDP to national relevance, saying he remained “the last man standing” in the party during its most turbulent times.
Mark, who served as Senate President from 2007 to 2015, noted that the current state of the party has become “a shadow of its former self” and is now “subjecting it to public ridicule.” He announced his decision to join the National Coalition of Political Opposition Movement in Nigeria, saying the move follows wide consultations with his family, friends, and political associates. He described the coalition as a collective effort “to rescue our nation and preserve our hard-earned democracy.”
