Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has publicly expressed deep gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership and foresight, particularly on the Bar Beach Land Reclamation project in Victoria Island, Lagos. In an open letter published Wednesday, Dangote credited Tinubu with initiating a transformative process that turned a flood-prone coastline into a thriving commercial and residential district, describing it as a “defining skyline and a receptacle for direct investment and socioeconomic growth” since its 2008 conception.

The billionaire industrialist compared the Eko Atlantic City project to similar flood-control feats in the Netherlands, lauding it as a testament to Tinubu’s long-term vision. “Your foresightedness is even more visible in view of the tragic incident in Kerr County, Texas, USA, where over 100 lives have sadly been lost to flash flooding,” he wrote, contrasting it with the flood resilience of the Eko Atlantic development protected by an 8.5-kilometre-long sea wall. Dangote also praised Tinubu’s administration for restarting critical infrastructure projects like the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway and the long-abandoned Sokoto-Badagry superhighway.

  1. He added that the Aliko Dangote Foundation would soon unveil plans for a Climate Fund to support vulnerable flood-prone regions in Nigeria. While offering condolences to victims of recent flooding, he ended by praying for Tinubu’s continued wisdom and success, writing, “I salute you!” and urging more progress for the benefit of all Nigerians.
