Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s recent decision to remove the fuel subsidy, describing the move as poorly conceived and lacking proper consultation.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, Dalung argued that the government’s decision was made without adequate understanding of bureaucratic and governance processes. He further dismissed the administration’s justification for the policy, calling it a reflection of a “poverty of ideas and knowledge.”
Dalung’s comments come amid growing debates over the impact of fuel subsidy removal on the Nigerian economy, with many analysts warning of potential increases in the cost of living and inflationary pressures.
The former minister stressed the need for government policies to be more consultative, inclusive, and informed by technical expertise, rather than abrupt measures that risk public backlash.
