The Nigeria Customs Service Board (NCSB) has approved the appointment of four Deputy Comptroller-Generals (DCGs) and twelve Assistant Comptroller-Generals (ACGs), alongside the promotion of 3,312 senior officers across various ranks.
The decisions were taken at the Board’s 63rd regular meeting held on Tuesday, 2 September 2025, chaired by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun.
According to the Board, the appointments were made to fill vacancies created by recent retirements and to ensure equitable representation across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones in line with the Federal Character Policy outlined in Section 14(4) of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023.
The newly appointed DCGs are:
AB Mohammed (North-West)
GO Omale (North-Central)
OC Orbih (South-South)
D Nnadi (South-East)
In addition, the NCS Management, at its sixth meeting on 29 August 2025, approved the promotion of 202 junior officers from Assistant Inspector to Customs Assistant I.
“These promotions underscore the Service’s commitment to merit-based career progression and recognition of outstanding performance,” the Board stated.
Revenue Performance Surpasses Expectations
The Board also reviewed the Service’s revenue collection for the first half of 2025. Between 1 January and 30 June, the Nigeria Customs Service recorded ₦3,682,496,530,576.48, surpassing its projected revenue by ₦390,197,847,119.32 — an increase of 11.85%.
This represents 55.93% of the annual revenue target within just six months.
The Board said the strong performance reflected “the effectiveness of ongoing reforms, improved compliance by stakeholders, and enhanced deployment of technology in Customs operations.”
Trade Modernisation Progress
The meeting also highlighted updates on the Service’s Trade Modernisation Project, which includes:
Wider deployment of the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), codenamed B’Odogwu
Arrival of six new scanners, including an FS6000 model
Procurement of Electronic Cargo Tracking System (ECTS) equipment
Establishment of the Centralised Image Analysis System (CIAS) at Customs Headquarters
Reinforcement of cybersecurity systems
Operationalisation of a multi-channel helpdesk
Onboarding of new trade stakeholders
Targeted capacity-building programmes
The Board stressed that these measures align Nigeria’s customs clearance processes with international best practices and support the Presidential directive on the National Single Window (NSW).
Accountability and Discipline
In disciplinary matters, the Board approved the demotion of two officers over misconduct and reinstated two others after reviewing their cases. Officials said the decisions demonstrate “the Board’s commitment to accountability and fairness.”

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, congratulated the newly appointed and promoted officers, urging them to deliver on the responsibilities entrusted to them.
