CUPP’s General Secretary, Chief Peter Ameh, stated this in Abuja while reacting to the wave of defections by members of opposition parties to the APC. He said the ruling party’s strategy of absorbing political heavyweights from rival parties was not a reflection of grassroots popularity or good governance, but rather an act of political desperation.
According to Ameh, Nigerians are now politically conscious and will not be swayed by elite defections or the personal ambitions of political leaders.
The decision of some governors to abandon the political platforms on which they were elected does not translate to the acceptance of the APC by their people. Nigerians are wiser now and will vote based on performance, not political convenience.”
He accused the APC of exploiting state power and federal influence to lure opposition figures into its fold, describing it as an attempt to “create a false sense of political dominance ahead of 2027.”
Ameh urged citizens to remain vigilant and resist manipulation by politicians who, he said, prioritize personal survival over national interest.
The CUPP scribe also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a transparent and credible electoral process that would reflect the will of the people, regardless of party affiliations.
He reaffirmed CUPP’s commitment to building a strong, issue-driven opposition alliance capable of holding the ruling party accountable and providing Nigerians with a viable alternative in 2027.
