The Cross River State House of Assembly has passed a N642 billion supplementary budget for the 2025 fiscal year to boost funding for key infrastructure, social services, and economic development projects.
The approval followed the adoption of the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation during Tuesday’s plenary session presided over by Speaker Elvert Ayambem.
Presenting the committee’s findings, Chairman of the Appropriation Committee, Hon. Samuel Bassey, said the supplementary budget became necessary to accommodate new priority projects, address funding gaps in ongoing programmes, and respond to emerging economic realities in the state.
He explained that the additional funds would be sourced through improved internally generated revenue, federal allocations, and strategic partnerships with development agencies.
“The supplementary budget will enable the state government to deliver critical infrastructure, improve healthcare, boost education, and support job creation initiatives,” Bassey said.
Speaker Ayambem commended the committee for its diligence, stressing that the budget expansion was in line with Governor Bassey Otu’s “People First” agenda aimed at accelerating development across the state.
With the latest approval, Cross River’s total budget for 2025 rises from the original N1.6 trillion to about N2.24 trillion.
The Assembly urged the executive to ensure prudent management of the additional funds and timely completion of all projects earmarked under the new fiscal plan.
