The Cross River State Ministry of Education has shut down 10 unapproved learning institutions operating without authorization as part of an ongoing enforcement drive to sanitize the state’s education sector.
​The crackdown, executed on Friday morning, October 2, 2026, was led by the State Task Force on Illegal Schools during an early-hour monitoring exercise across target council areas.
​Nine of the sealed institutions are situated in Calabar-South Local Government Area, while one is in Odukpani Local Government Area: Aunty Offiong’s Talent Nursery/Primary School, Dreams and Destiny Manifestation Nursery/Primary School, Abba’s Delight Kids Academy, Evangel High School and Destined Headers International School.
More names of the school sealed is Phronesis-Sunesis School of Excellence, Emerald Bay Schools, Elsin Foundation, Bridgeway International Schools (Calabar-South) and God’slife Nursery/Primary School (Odukpani LGA)
​Speaking on behalf of the ministry during a press briefing at 7:40 PM at the Ministry of Information Headquarters in Calabar, State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Stephen Odey, reaffirmed the administration’s zero-tolerance policy for substandard learning facilities.
Ministry spokesperson Patricia Ogbeche also noted that several proprietors had previously received warnings regarding their failure to obtain official Authority to Operate permits.
​Prof. Odey warned that enforcement operations will expand to cover all 18 Local Government Areas in Cross River State to ensure full compliance with approved educational standards.
Proprietors of unapproved schools were urged to close down or immediately regularize their operations with the Ministry of Education.
