Clerics, under the aegis of Cross River State Christian Leaders Forum (Crossclef) have berated former Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Michael Aoundoka (SAN) for his role during the ceding of Bakassi peninsula to Cameron.
The Clerics also blamed Aoundoka for the ceding of 76 oil wells to Akwa Ibom State, an action they described as ” a violation of covenant, equity, and righteousness.”
In a statement signed by the chairman of the Council of Elders, His Eminence, Archbishop Josef Bassey and Secretary, General, Pastor Mark Ochi Monday evening, they said that ” every attempt to whitewash this atrocity or to use belated commentary to absolve guilt must be rejected.”
The statement read in part: “We, the Cross River State Christian Leaders Forum (Crossclef) – spiritual fathers and moral watchmen over this land, are compelled by truth, conscience, and covenant responsibility to respond to the recent comments made by former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mr. Michael Aondoka (SAN), regarding the ceding of Bakassi Peninsula and the controversial reassignment of 76 oil wells from Cross River to Akwa Ibom.
“Let it be known to all men: Mr. Aondoka has neither the moral standing nor spiritual legitimacy to speak on these matters. He was not a helpless bystander. He was the sitting chief legal officer of the federation when the axe fell on Cross River. He oversaw, and thereby sanctioned the betrayal.
“It was during his tenure that the Federal Government, in a decision that has since brought untold hardship, ceded our ancestral land of Bakassi to Cameroon, displacing thousands of citizens, desecrating historical justice, and shattering the economic spine of a peace-loving people. Even more grievous, he presided over the legal machinations that led to the seizure of 76 oil wells, stripping the state of resources divinely placed within its borders.
“This cannot, and must not, be swept under the carpet of selective amnesia or political posturing. The injustice against Cross River is not only constitutional, it is spiritual. It is a violation of covenant, equity, and righteousness. And he who oversaw it cannot now speak as though he were an outsider to the crime.”
The Clerics said as spiritual fathers of Cross River State, “we declare that: the blood of justice still cries from the ground and we shall not stop crying out to God and to men until restitution is made, and righteousness restored.”
