The Kaduna State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been thrown into turmoil following the expulsion of its Deputy Chairman, Ahmed Mustapha, alongside eight other top officials over alleged gross misconduct and insubordination.
The expulsion, which was announced after an emergency meeting of the State Working Committee in Kaduna, has deepened divisions within the party, raising concerns about its stability ahead of future political activities.
According to a statement issued by the State Chairman, Ibrahim Haruna, the affected officials were accused of engaging in anti-party activities, attempts to usurp the powers of the leadership, and violating the party’s constitution.
“The decision to expel these members was not taken lightly. It followed a series of investigations that revealed deliberate acts of indiscipline, insubordination, and attempts to create parallel leadership structures within the party.”
He emphasized that the ADC in Kaduna remains committed to internal democracy and unity, warning that the party would not tolerate actions capable of undermining its progress and public image.
However, sources within the expelled faction dismissed the allegations as politically motivated, accusing the state leadership of high-handedness and intolerance to dissent.
One of the expelled members, who spoke anonymously, alleged that their removal was part of a plot to silence voices calling for transparency and inclusivity in the party’s affairs.
The crisis marks yet another internal conflict within the ADC in recent months, mirroring similar disputes in other states that have challenged the party’s cohesion at the national level.
As tensions continue to rise, party stakeholders have called on the national leadership of the ADC to intervene and restore peace in the Kaduna chapter to prevent further fragmentation ahead of upcoming political engagements.
