The Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) has congratulated Mr Olatunji Disu on his appointment as the new Inspector-General of Police by President Bola Tinubu.
CRAN congratulated Disu in a statement signed by its president, Mr Olalekan Olabulo, on Wednesday in Lagos.
The association described the appointment as strategic, well-considered, and firmly anchored on merit, competence, and proven performance.
CRAN commended President Tinubu for what it termed a decision that reflected confidence in Disu’s professionalism, integrity, and leadership capacity, particularly at a time when the country faces significant internal security challenges.
The association said that Disu had track record across several key commands in the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
“As Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos, he was credited with implementing intelligence-driven strategies that enhanced public safety and improved operational responsiveness.
“During his tenure as Head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Disu coordinated complex operations with tactical precision and professionalism.
“He has track records in his service as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and later in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, where he demonstrated administrative leadership and crisis management skills in demanding environments.
“As Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Alagbon, Lagos, Disu strengthened investigative capacity and reinforced institutional discipline,” it stated.
According to CRAN, Disu has also undergone several specialised training programmes within and outside Nigeria, covering areas such as small arms smuggling, internet fraud, forensic investigations, and strategic leadership.
“The experiences have equipped him to confront emerging security threats including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, cybercrime, and organised criminal networks,” it said.
The association expressed optimism that under Disu’s leadership, the NPF would witness a renewed emphasis on intelligence-led policing and improved collaboration with other security agencies.
It also anticipated enhanced officers’ welfare and discipline, as well as increased deployment of modern technology in crime detection and prevention.
CRAN reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining constructive engagement and professional partnership with the police, in the pursuit of peace, safety, and stability across the country.
