The Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA), Kebbi chapter, has commenced the planting of 100 trees across the state.
The source reports that about 1,000 trees are to be planted nationwide by the association led by its National President, Mrs Kikelomo Bashar-Adeniyi.
Speaking at the official flag-off of the exercise at the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Kebbi Area Command, the Chairperson in the state, Mrs Farida Mahmud-Ibrahim, described tree planting as a measure of planning for future generations.
“Today, we are not just planting trees; we are planting hope, sustainability, and a healthier future for our environment and our nation.
“Across Nigeria, the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA) is undertaking a powerful initiative to plant 1,000 trees.
“Here at Kebbi Command, we are proud to contribute by planting 100 trees,” she said.
Mahmud-Ibrahim commended the COWA national president for her leadership and vision.
“Her leadership and vision continue to drive this impactful initiative across the nation,” she said.
She also expressed appreciation to the Comptroller of Kebbi Area Command for the immense support and cooperation in making the exercise a success.
“In line with COWA’s Green Initiative and our ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability, we are also pleased to support the command by donating 12 large dustbins.
“These will help promote proper waste disposal and recycling, especially for plastic waste.
“Additionally, we are donating watering cans to assist in nurturing the trees planted today and beyond.
“As we carry out this exercise, let us remember that planting a tree is just the beginning.
“We must nurture and protect them so they can grow and benefit generations to come,” she advised.
In his remarks, the Comptroller, Kebbi Area Command, Mr Mahmud Matawalle-Ibrahim, commended COWA for the initiative and the donation of dustbins and watering cans.
He said the command was striving to sustain cleanliness, adding that the dustbins would help keep the environment tidy and hygienic.
The source also reports that COWA members and senior NCS officers planted trees at the command premises, the Officers’ Mess and other areas.
