Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has scheduled April 30, 2026, to deliver a ruling on an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) seeking the final forfeiture of a property allegedly linked to former Acting Accountant-General of the Federation, Chukwunyere Anamekwe Nwabuoku.
During proceedings on Tuesday, defence counsel Norrison Quakers (SAN) informed the court that he had filed an application to set aside the interim forfeiture order granted on January 27, 2025. He also drew the court’s attention to a notice of preliminary objection, dated August 15, 2025, in which he challenged the court’s jurisdiction to entertain the matter.
The EFCC, in its application, seeks the permanent forfeiture of the property, arguing that it is part of assets acquired through proceeds of alleged financial misconduct. The matter has attracted significant attention as it involves a high-ranking former government official.
Justice Umar is expected to deliver his ruling on both the EFCC’s forfeiture application and the defence’s jurisdictional challenge at the end of April.
