Governor Ademola Adeleke has approved a two-year tenure extension for the Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye, citing the need to sustain the institution’s impressive administrative momentum and academic trajectory.
​The announcement took place on Monday morning, August 31, 2026, inside the Executive Council Lounge at the Government House in Osogbo, during the formal inauguration of the university’s newly reconstituted Governing Council.
Governor Adeleke revealed that Prof. Adebooye initially hesitated to accept the extension. However, the state government formalized the additional two years to prevent leadership vacuums, maintain administrative stability, and protect the university’s achievements, noting that UNIOSUN has risen to rank 19th nationwide and 3rd among state-owned universities in Nigeria.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Adeleke cautioned the new council against power struggles. ​”I charge you to work harmoniously with the Vice-Chancellor and management. The governing council and management should not operate as competing centres of authority,” Adeleke instructed.
The Governor reappointed Professor Adewale Abiodun Oladipo as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council. Prof. Oladipo expressed gratitude for the renewed trust and pledged to build on past achievements alongside the university management.
In an official statement issued following the ceremony, UNIOSUN Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ademola Adesoji, noted that the extension reflects high confidence in Prof. Adebooye’s visionary leadership.
​Offering his vote of thanks at the venue, Prof. Adebooye expressed appreciation to Governor Adeleke and the Governing Council, reaffirming his commitment to consolidating ongoing structural projects, strengthening research output, and driving UNIOSUN toward becoming a top-tier university across Africa.
