TEXT: PROVERBS 4:1-11
1. Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, And attend to know understanding.
2. For I give you good doctrine, Forsake ye not my law.
3. For I was my father’s son, Tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.
4. He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: Keep my commandments, and live.
5. Get wisdom, get understanding: Forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.
6. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: Love her, and she shall keep thee.
7. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore, get wisdom: And with all thy getting get understanding.
8. Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: She shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.
9. She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: A crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.
10. Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; And the years of thy life shall be many.
11. I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.
KEY VERSE: ECCLESIASTES 10:10 If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge; then must he put to more strength; but wisdom is profitable to direct.
The leadership expects you to go for medical tests to ascertain your compatibility because there are people suffering from genetic problems such as sickle cell anaemia. Two carriers are not compatible for marriage “AS x AS = AA, AS OR SS.” Just one child with sickle cell anaemia ‘SS’ is enough to scatter your Christian life if care is not taken.
The same applies to your material resources. Wisdom is profitable to direct. That is why we insist on medical tests. What about HIV, Hepatitis and other deadly communicable diseases? However, it is not all diseases that are communicable. You can not say marriage should not be contracted because of malaria, fever, or similar ailments.
It is also important sometimes to test the genitals because you may see a man or a woman in the face, but the genitals may not be there. The face is that of a woman, but the organ may be that of a man. These organs may have to be checked to ensure they are there. It is very important.
If you are a eunuch, why are you looking for a wife when you have not settled that matter? Some of these things have to be medically verified so that we do not bring problems to the sister or the brother. You need to submit to medical tests.
Proposal should not be made until after successful medical tests. After the medical test, if the results of both parties are okay, you will now be allowed to communicate your mind. Do not influence her or her parents through gifts. Make sure everything passes through the supervision of God.
