A group, Commonwealth Business Women Africa (CBW-Africa), has said it is set to host female business owners and entrepreneurs from no fewer than 25 countries to an empowerment and capacity- building summit in Lagos State, the Head, Steering Committee, CBW-Africa, Mrs Helen Efue, said at a news conference on Sunday – yesterday, March 2 – in Lagos.
Efue said the event, aimed at creating a platform that highlights the vital role of women in shaping a prosperous future for Africa, will hold under the theme ‘Synergies for Sustainable Prosperity: Uniting Trade, Health, Wellness, Technological Advancement, Informal Sector Advancement, and Clean Energy Solutions in Africa’.
“In addition to the 19 Commonwealth countries, we proudly have as members, non-Commonwealth nations from within and outside the continent including Guyana, USA, United Kingdom and Switzerland,” Efue enthused.
“This diverse representation showcases the strength of collaboration across borders, enhancing our collective impact.”
Mrs Tosin Sodeinde, Partnership and Funding, CBW-Africa, said the theme would help showcase trade across Africa, adding that the event will celebrate the cultural diversity of Africans, in terms of food, arts and culture.
“In Africa, our culture cuts across all our business lines, and so, everything we do cuts across culture and our culture diversity shows more in women because of our clothing and food,” she said.
According to Dr Ada Onwuka, a member of the group, the summit would be an opportunity for African women to tell their stories as it affects them.
Onwuka said participants would have access to mentorship, advocacy, funding and networking opportunities.
According to a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) report, the group would unveil the CBW-Africa Trade Centre during its inaugural summit.
The centre is expected to serve as a vital hub for trade across borders, facilitating connections and opportunities within and outside the continent.
