Acting Coach of Abakaliki FC, Starplus Anista, on Saturday urged his players to sustain winning form after their match-day four victory over Ekiti United.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the “Rice Boys” beat Ekiti United by a lone goal in Abakaliki in an NNL clash to secure their second win of the season.
The team now has seven points from four matches, recovering from a poor 1–1 home draw which led to the suspension of Head Coach Ifeanyi Onyedika.
Anista told journalists after the match that the players obeyed instructions but must maintain consistency to achieve their targets this season.
He said the NNL season had been unpredictable, with teams winning, drawing, and losing, stressing that only strong sides stayed consistent.
He praised the players’ tenacity in defending their lone goal and said they had improved their control of matches, especially on home soil.
Anista dismissed claims of indiscipline, saying the team earned only one yellow card after a gritty display, showing reduced complacency.
He said he was under no pressure to impress club management or fans to secure confirmation as substantive head coach of the club.
“I am focused on my job with total concentration and will let my performances speak for me,” he said.
Coach of Ekiti United, Bolarinwa Idris, commended his players’ efforts and insisted he still had one of the best squads in the league.
He said the traditional home advantage in Nigerian leagues worked against his side but noted that the team would return stronger.
The Chairman of Abakaliki FC Supporters Club, Maurice Mbam, assured fans that the team was improving and had entered a promising phase.
He said victories were coming and supporters were delighted but promised that even better performances were ahead.
