One-man, enforced or induced one-party civilian dictatorship is worse than military dictatorship.

That’s the bitter truth over the years. In military dictatorship, there is no pretence to legitimacy and democracy, so people know how to relate & deal with their imposed rulers, by circumventing the regime at all costs and by all means necessary.

But in a civilian dictatorship, all crimes the rulers commit against the people are given the colour of legitimacy by the pocketed state and national assemblies and the obviously biased, dependent corrupt judiciary.

Go and check the history of crude brutal civilian dictatorship especially in Africa/West Africa sub- region. When coup happened in any of these badly governed African countries, it is not really democracy that died but its civilian dictatorship enjoyed by few people that died and replaced by its twin viral disease. Democracy is not just an elitist fanciful word.

It’s a series of actions, performance, expectations, practical demonstration on basic tenets, like multi-partism, free & fair elections, internal party democracy, rule of law, freedoms, free press, independent judiciary, separation of power, good governance to satisfy the economic & security yearnings of the people, etc.

Anything short of these pillars on which democracy stands and grows, it’s no more democracy but civilian gangsterism by the few for the few using fake democracy to blackmail & compel people to surrender to their devilish whims & caprice.
