Chinese robotics company UBTech Robotics has unveiled a new range of full-size, hyper-realistic humanoid robots in Shenzhen, China, designed to provide emotional companionship, assist with household tasks and facilitate social interaction.

The company said the robots, available in male and female versions, can replicate more than 90 per cent of basic human movements and are powered by an emotional Artificial Intelligence (AI) system capable of recognising more than 20 emotional states with over 90 per cent accuracy.

According to UBTech, the robots are designed to support people in their daily lives by providing companionship, reminding users to take medication and offering assistance during emergencies. The company said the current models are targeted mainly at technology enthusiasts and corporate clients.

UBTech said it had received more than 10,000 pre-orders and plans to manufacture up to 50,000 units in 2026, adding that prices are expected to decline as production increases.

The launch has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some users describing the robots as a solution to loneliness. In contrast, others expressed concern that emotional attachment to AI companions could reduce human social interaction.
