Today, August 8, 2025, we celebrate the remarkable milestone of Chief Willie Maduaburochukwu Obiano, the immediate past Governor of Anambra State, as he turns 70 years old. A seasoned banker turned transformative leader, Obiano’s tenure left an indelible mark on Anambra, a state he governed with vision, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to progress.

Born in Aguleri on the 8th of August 1955, his journey from the financial sector to the political helm reflects a life dedicated to service, earning him respect as a statesman whose legacy endures.

During his eight-year administration, Obiano prioritized infrastructure, agriculture, and security, initiating landmark projects like the Anambra International Cargo Airport (now prof. Chinua Achebe International Cargo International Airport) situated in Ivite-Umueri,  and the Three Arms Zone, which continue to define the state’s development trajectory.

His “Anambra Integrated Development Strategy” boosted the state’s economy, making it an oil-producing region and a model for agricultural innovation, while his security initiatives curbed crime, fostering a safer environment. These achievements stand as testaments to his administrative prowess, despite controversies like the N42 billion security vote probe by the EFCC.

As we honor Chief Obiano on this platinum jubilee of his life, we reflect on his resilience amid political storms and personal challenges, including his 2022 detention by the EFCC, which he weathered with dignity. His contributions have shaped Anambra’s future, inspiring a generation of leaders.

On behalf of the people of Anambra and admirers across Nigeria, we extend heartfelt congratulations, wishing him robust health, wisdom, and continued impact as he enters this new chapter. Happy 70th birthday, Chief Obiano, your legacy shines bright!
