There was palpable fear and panic in Osun State on Wednesday afternoon when a VIP podium suddenly caved in during a major political rally, tossing Governor Ademola Adeleke and several high-profile dignitaries to the ground.
The incident occurred in the ancient town of Ijebu-Jesa, where a massive crowd of supporters had gathered. What began as a high-energy, celebratory event quickly dissolved into chaos as the wooden structure hosting the state’s top officials structurally failed.
According to eyewitnesses, the venue was filled to capacity, with hundreds of supporters surging toward the stage to catch a glimpse of the governor. It is believed that the weight of the dignitaries, combined with the pressure of over-enthusiastic supporters who breached the security perimeter to climb onto the platform, compromised the structure.
A loud cracking sound echoed through the loudspeakers, followed immediately by the sharp screams of onlookers as the entire center portion of the elevated stage collapsed inward.
