The National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC) has commended Gov. Bassey Otu of Cross River for signing into law the state Senior Citizens Centre bill.
This is contained in a statement by the NSCC’s Director General, Dr Emem Omokaro, through the Head Corporate Affairs, Media and Communications of NSCC. Mr Omini Oden, on Wednesday in Calabar.
The signing into law of the Senior Citizen Centre Bill, the State Road Maintenance Agency (Amendment) Bill and the State Lotteries and Gaming Agency Bill.
Omokaro noted that the legislation marked a significant milestone in the efforts to strengthen the protection of the rights of older persons.
He commended Otu’s visionary leadership and commitment to social inclusion saying that the law would help the elderly access health, economic, and social services in Cross River.
“This legislation is laudable because it recognises the invaluable contributions of senior citizens to the state’s development trajectory.
“I hope that the law will provide a framework for addressing the needs and concerns of senior citizens in the state, ensuring their dignity and wellbeing,” Omokaro said.
She added that NSCC looks forward to collaborating with the Cross River Government to ensure an effective implementation of the law.
