Popular comedian Caroline Efe, better known as Carter Efe, sparked controversy during a live stream when he called Nigerian Afrobeat superstar Wizkid an “idiot” for what he described as excessive pride and failure to acknowledge the viral tribute song “Machala.” In the moment, he said, “Bro if machala (Wizkid) call me ‘my gee’ e mean say something happen, or whether lion get belle, e no fit happen… that boy too get pride… idiot,” accusing Wizkid of missing out on the track’s popularity.
The backlash was swift. Carter Efe’s TikTok and Instagram accounts were temporarily suspended following widespread criticism and complaints from Wizkid’s fans and others offended by the remarks, though critics say he deactivated his accounts to chase clout.
Hours later, visibly emotional, Carter Efe returned online to express remorse. He told his followers, “FC no vex, make una forgive me,” tearfully regretting his earlier insult and promising he never meant to disrespect the singer.
