The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has constituted caretaker committees to oversee its affairs in Cross River and Akwa Ibom states, pending the conduct of fresh party congresses.
The decision was announced on Wednesday in a statement issued in Abuja by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, following deliberations by party leaders at the national secretariat.
According to the statement, the appointments were approved by the National Working Committee on behalf of the National Executive Committee, in line with the provisions of the PDP Constitution.
In Cross River State, the party appointed Bassey Ewa as Chairman of the caretaker committee, with Dr. Bassey Adim named as Secretary, and Emmanuel Ekpe as Administrative Secretary.
The caretaker committees are expected to manage party affairs, ensure internal cohesion, and prepare the states for smooth and transparent congresses.
The PDP leadership emphasized that the committees would function as interim structures until new executives are democratically elected, reaffirming the party’s commitment to internal democracy and orderly management at all levels.
The party said similar appointments would be made for Akwa Ibom State, with details to be communicated in due course, as part of efforts to strengthen its organizational structure ahead of upcoming political activities.
