A new chapter in community security and grassroots development has opened earlier in the week as the Executive Chairman of Calabar South Local Government Area, Pastor Hon. Patrick Archibong, led the groundbreaking and foundation laying ceremony of the Anantigha Police Station project.
The ceremony, held at the project site in Anantigha, Calabar South, drew stakeholders from across the state, including top government officials, security agencies, traditional leaders, and community members.
The Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, was represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Emmanuel Ironbar, who expressed the state government’s strong commitment to ensuring the overall security of lives and property across the state. He commended the Council Chairman for initiating the project, describing it as a vital step in enhancing grassroots security and governance.
Also in attendance was the Cross River State Commissioner of Police, CP Olusegun Omosanyin, who represented the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 6, AIG Auwal Mohammed. He pledged the readiness of the Nigeria Police Force to maintain peace and order throughout the country. AIG Mohammed noted that the facility would be deeply appreciated by the police and would significantly improve the effectiveness of policing in the area.
In his keynote speech, Chairman Archibong described the occasion as “the birth of a new dawn” for Calabar South, emphasizing the symbolic and practical importance of the project.
“This groundbreaking is not just about constructing a building, it is about laying the foundation for peace and justice,” he said. “It is about ensuring our mothers can sleep without fear, our children can dream without threat, and our youth can live without falling prey to cultism, crime or insecurity.”
He lauded Governor Otu for trusting local government authorities with such critical responsibilities and extended gratitude to the host community of Anantigha for their patience and cooperation. He also acknowledged the contributions of the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Hon. Ankpo Pius, for technical guidance in driving the projects.
Archibong urged community members to protect and embrace the facility as a symbol of partnership between the government and the people.
“As we dig into the earth today, let us also dig deep into our hearts to rededicate ourselves to peace, responsibility, and unity,” he said.
The Anantigha Police Station, when completed, is expected to bolster law enforcement capabilities, improve community safety, and serve as a model of community-driven security infrastructure within the state.
