The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has announced plans to introduce an Artificial Intelligence (AI) agent to resolve the backlog of 7,000 pending company registration applications and ease delays in service delivery.
Registrar-General of the Commission, Hussaini Magaji, disclosed this on Monday during a stakeholders’ forum in Kano. In a statement posted on the CAC’s official social media page on Tuesday, Magaji described the planned upgrade as a “complete overhaul” of the Company Registration Portal (CRP), which was launched in June.
According to him, the AI-powered system is designed to speed up compliance checks, registry operations, and customer service delivery with faster turnaround times and improved accuracy.
“In a bid to tackle the backlog of 7,000 registration applications, the CAC Boss said an AI agent was in the pipeline to handle requests across compliance, registry, and customer service with speed and accuracy,” the statement read.
Magaji also highlighted some of the portal’s upgraded features, including instant name approvals and automatic suggestions when preferred business names are unavailable. He compared the simplicity of the new name reservation process to “opening an email account,” stressing that AI integration would allow seamless suggestions and real-time approvals.
While acknowledging that customers had reported delays, Magaji attributed the challenges to an unexpectedly high number of applications submitted since the system’s launch.
To further ease the strain, the Registrar-General explained that the AI agent was also being programmed to manage daily correspondence.
“In a bid to address the barrage of calls and no fewer than 3,000 emails per day, the Commission opted for an AI solution that has the capacity to read 3,000 emails within a minute, comprehend the messages, dictate duplicate requests, as well as reroute requests to the appropriate units/departments for instant response,” the statement added.
The Commission noted that the AI initiative aligns with broader efforts to modernise company registration in Nigeria, transform the business environment, and accelerate approvals as part of the ease of doing business reforms.
