The Cross River House of Assembly has confirmed Mr Ayuk Afor as Commissioner nominee for Tourism, Arts and Culture.
The confirmation followed the adoption of the report of the House Committee on Judiciary, Public Service Matters, Public Petitions and Conflict Resolution on Thursday during plenary session.
Presenting the report, the Committee Chairman, Dr. Davies Etta, said the nominee met all requirements for appointment into the State Executive Council.
According to him, Afor possesses the qualifications, experience and competence needed to effectively discharge the responsibilities of the office.
Lawmakers, who contributed to the debate, described the nominee as experienced, capable and well-positioned to contribute to the state’s development.
The members expressed confidence in Afor’s ability to support government policies and advance the tourism, arts and culture sector.
The Speaker of the House, Mr Elvert Ayambem, subsequently put the committee’s recommendation to a voice vote.
The recommendation received overwhelming support from lawmakers, leading to the nominee’s confirmation by the House.
Ayambem used the opportunity to commended Gov. Bassey Otu for selecting a replacement from the constituency of the late Hon. Abubakar Ewa.
Responding, Afor thanked the governor and lawmakers, pledging transparency, accountability and diligent service in implementing the administration’s programmes.
The nomination of Mr Ayuk Afor by Gov. Otu was in full compliance with Section 192(2) of Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).
It was also sequel to the vacancy created by the demise of Mr Abubakar Ewa who served as the Commissioner in charge of Tourism, Arts and Culture until his demise on Jan. 8, 2025.
