Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), today (Aturday, August 24) tendered his letter of resignation  to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
This marks the end of Abubakar’s tenure as the head of Nigeria’s foremost intelligence body, which is tasked with managing the country’s foreign intelligence and counterintelligence operations.
Ahmed Rufai Abubakar has been a key figure in Nigeria’s intelligence community since his appointment as the Director-General of the NIA in January 2018.
His leadership at the agency has been pivotal in safeguarding Nigeria’s national security, particularly in areas involving external threats, gathering critical intelligence on foreign entities, advising the Nigerian government on international security matters and conducting operations that protect the nation’s interests abroad.
Before assuming the role of Director General, Abubakar had an illustrious career both domestically and internationally, his extensive experience in diplomatic and intelligence circles well-recognized.
Abubakar served in various capacities within the Nigerian Foreign Service, where he honed his expertise in global affairs, diplomacy and intelligence operations.
His contributions have been integral to Nigeria’s foreign relations and security apparatus, making his resignation a big issue in the country’s political and security landscape.
