“Imagine we went to fight and arrest some bandits in Northern Nigeria. We captured 300 of them and lost about 10 Igbo soldiers in the process. Two weeks later, the Nigerian government declares them as ‘repentant bandits’ and sends them back to their homes in the North, where they regroup and start attacking us again — without any regard for the 10 Igbo lives lost just to arrest them.
Igbos are smart people; you can’t fool them twice. The Nigerian government forgets that Igbos are watching the entire drama and strategy. We see the favoritism and betrayal. Now, no family wants to send their children into such a corrupt military.
You send Northern soldiers to the peaceful South East, but you deploy Igbos to the dangerous North, only to later pardon the same bandits they fought.
Let the government send their own sons and wives to the military — we are no longer interested.”
