A few minutes ago, about 8.05pm local time thick black smoke emitted from the chimney indicating that no pope has been elected .This is after about four hours of voting by the 132 Cardinal electors.
The implication is that the papal conclave consisting of the about 132 Cardinal electors will reconvene at the Cistern chapel tomorrow to continue with the process of electing a new Pope.
The election of a new Pope is usually heralded by a white smoke.The aggregation of opinion is that the Catholic world is in for a short conclave with the prospect of a new Pope emerging as early as tomorrow.
