The Kaduna State Security Council has imposed a 24-hour curfew on the metropolitan cities of Kaduna and Zaria due to ongoing protests as the action enters 5 day today.

Despite that some parts of Kaduna have returned to normalcy, thousands of youths remain on the streets, demanding an end to what they describe as bad governance.

The picture shared this morning as monitored by DAILY QUERY showed a mammoth crowd in major parts of the state, despite  President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s  nationwide broadcast yesterday morning.

President Tinubu had addressed the nation, calling for calm, but the protesters claim he did not address their demands. On  today (Monday), Samuel Aruwan, the Overseeing Commissioner for the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, issued a statement explaining that the curfew was imposed in the interest of peace.

“The Kaduna State Security Council, under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani, following a review of the security situation in the State, hereby notifies citizens of the following: There is sufficient evidence to clearly indicate that the ongoing protest has been hijacked by criminal elements who have resorted to looting shops and destroying private and public property.

“In view of this unfortunate development, the Kaduna State Security Council has unanimously resolved to impose a 24-hour curfew on Kaduna and Zaria metropolises and their environs with immediate effect,” Aruwan stated (NAN).
