BREAKING: Independence Day: FG declares October 1 public holiday

The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, as public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day.

The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who announced this on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulated Nigerians at home and abroad on what he described as a “historic occasion.”

“October 1 remains a reminder of our shared heritage, unity, and the resilience that have kept us together as a nation since 1960,” Tunji-Ojo said in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani.

The Minister urged Nigerians to sustain the patriotic spirit that has defined the country’s journey while deepening their faith in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR).

“We must continue to believe in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which is anchored on national rebirth, economic transformation, and collective prosperity,” he said.

He expressed optimism about the nation’s future, saying, “With the cooperation of all Nigerians, our country will continue to grow stronger in peace, progress, and development.”

He extended wishes to citizens, saying, “I wish all Nigerians a happy and memorable 2025 Independence Day celebration.”
