The House of Representatives has resolved to probe the Economic and Financial Crimes over allegations that money laundering charges against Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, was dropped after alleged payment of N15m.
The House also resolved to investigate the Nigerian Correctional Service ( NCoS) over allegations that Okuneye, who was convicted and jailed for spraying Naira notes at a party, did not serve his sentence in a custodial centre.
Consequently, the House mandated its Committees on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions to undertake the investigation and report back to the parliament within three weeks for further legislative actions.
This followed the adoption of a motion by Patrick Umoh, alerting the House to publications in the social media, emanating from an Instragam post by Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, which borders on the integrity of the EFCC and the NCS.
Umoh noted that “the disturbing and widely circulated publication emanating from Martins Vincent Otse (also known as Very DarkMan) against critical Nigerian law enforcement institutions – the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service, “should be investigated.
He added that “the publication alleges that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) dropped money laundering charges against Idris Okuneye (also known as Bobrisky) upon collection of the sum of Fifteen Million Naira (N15, 000, 000).
” The publication alleges that Idris Okuneye, upon conviction for abuse and defacing of the Naira, by the court did not serve his time at the Nigeria Correctional Service, but was lodged outside the confines of the Service.”
Umoh expressed worry that “the damning allegations against Nigerian critical law enforcement agencies of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correction Service” has portrayed Nigeria as a corrupt country.
