Bauchi Police arrest four after fatal farmer-herder clash in Ningi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with a deadly confrontation between farmers and herders in Guda Village, Ningi Local Government Area, which resulted in the death of a farmer and the burning of several structures.

​The violent incident unfolded on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, when three local farmers discovered cattle allegedly destroying crops on their farmlands at Guda Hill. According to statement details issued on Friday, October 9, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the farmers trailed the livestock to a nearby herders’ settlement to confront the owners.

​An argument broke out at the settlement and rapidly degenerated into a physical altercation. During the brawl, all three farmers sustained injuries. Tensions escalated further when a group of youths from Guda Village mobilized in retaliation and set multiple houses within the herders’ settlement on fire.

​Police operatives dispatched to the scene managed to quell the violence and transported the injured farmers to the General Hospital in Ningi. However, one of the victimized farmers, identified as Jibrin, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.

​Following intelligence-led investigations, police operatives apprehended four key suspects on Thursday, October 8, 2026. The command disclosed that the individuals face charges including; Criminal conspiracy, Causing grievous hurt, Mischief by fire (arson) and Culpable homicide.

​The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Bauchi for further investigation.

CP Aliyu extended his condolences to the bereaved family and affected residents, warning that the command will not tolerate jungle justice or individuals taking the law into their own hands. He appealed to agrarian and pastoral communities across the state to resolve disputes through peaceful dialogue.
