The Majority Leader of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Hon. Saleh Hodi, representing Disina Constituency, has officially resigned his legislative seat to contest the upcoming Shira Local Government Area chairmanship election under the ruling party.
​The resignation was formally announced on Thursday morning, August 13, 2026, at 10:00 AM during a special plenary session held at the Assembly Complex along Gombe Road in Bauchi.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y. Suleiman, read Hon. Hodi’s official letter of resignation on the floor of the chamber, citing Section 109 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
Addressing colleagues and press personnel at a briefing immediately following the session, Hon. Saleh Hodi stated: ​”My decision to step down from the State Assembly is born out of a deep commitment to serve my immediate grassroots community at the local government level.
Having represented Disina Constituency with dedication, I am taking this step to bring tailored development, grassroots governance, and economic empowerment directly to the people of Shira Local Government Area.”

Confirming the development, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Abdulburhan Hassan, noted that the Assembly had formally communicated the vacancy to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) for necessary election procedures.
​Hon. Saleh Hodi has served as Majority Leader, overseeing significant legislative activity, including the passage of key bills aimed at infrastructure and rural development. His departure triggers a transition in the leadership structure of the 10th Bauchi State House of Assembly, with the selection of a new Majority Leader expected in subsequent legislative sittings.
​Local council elections across Bauchi State’s 20 Local Government Areas are scheduled to take place next month, with campaign activities kicking off immediately following party nominations.
