Bangladesh High Commission in Nigeria on Saturday in Abuja celebrated the New Bangla Year, 1426, reiterating commitment to strengthen diplomatic ties with Nigeria.
The report says that the Bengali New Year is celebrated by the Bengali people worldwide on April 14 and April 15 in the Indian states of West Bengal, Tripura, and Assam. It is a festival based on the spring harvest which marks the first day of the new year in the Bengali calendar. Md. Ahiduzzaman Liton, Charge d’Affaires of the Bangladesh High Commission in Nigeria, expressed optimism that the new year would bring renewed hope for happiness and prosperity for all.
“We believe that the celebration of the Bangla New Year underscores the importance of cultural traditions in fostering international relations,” he said Liton pointed out the growing enthusiasm among businesses and entrepreneurs from both Bangladesh and Nigeria to engage in mutually beneficial ventures. He noted that collaborations are flourishing in various sectors, including Information and Communications Technology (ICT), agriculture, knitwear, and government-to-state trade.
He reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to enhancing collaboration with Nigeria, emphasizing the importance of strengthening bilateral relations for the benefit of both nations. Amb. Mohammed Haidara, Deputy Director of the Asia and Pacific Division in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, congratulated Bangladesh on the occasion of the new year. “The New Year celebration serves as a reminder of the potential for partnership and prosperity, laying the groundwork for a bright future in Bangladesh-Nigeria relations. He also reaffirmed his commitment to deepen trade relations between Bangladesh and Nigeria.
