The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Alhaji Muhammad Sama’ila-Bagudo, by suspected bandits in Bagudo Local Government Area.
In a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, said the lawmaker was kidnapped on Friday night at about 8:20 p.m.
According to Abubakar, a gang of armed men invaded Bagudo town and seized the Deputy Speaker shortly after he had observed the Isha’i prayer and was heading home.
“The unfortunate incident occurred at about 8:20 p.m. when armed men stormed Bagudo town and abducted the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Muhammad Sama’ila-Bagudo, while he was returning home after prayers,” the statement read in part.
The police spokesperson added that the command has since deployed tactical teams, including operatives of the Police Mobile Force and local vigilantes, to track down the assailants and ensure the safe rescue of the lawmaker.
He assured residents that the command is making concerted efforts in collaboration with other security agencies to restore calm and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Meanwhile, tension has heightened in Bagudo town and surrounding communities as security operatives intensify search operations. Family members and constituents of the abducted Deputy Speaker have expressed deep concern, praying for his safe return.
Alhaji Muhammad Sama’ila-Bagudo, a prominent political figure and representative of the Bagudo constituency, is serving his second term in the Kebbi State House of Assembly.
