Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has publicly dismissed rumours that Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah is preparing to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Speaking on Saturday in Abuja, Governor Mohammed, who also heads the PDP Governors’ Forum, insisted that as of yet, Mbah has not informed party leadership of any decision to defect.

>Actually, Governor Mbah has not told us his position… Up till now, he has not told me he’s leaving,” Bala Mohammed told journalists.

Mohammed emphasized that while speculation is ongoing, no formal declaration has been made. He also noted he has met with Mbah privately and said the Enugu governor has given assurances.

He acknowledged the wave of defections from PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in recent months, saying it is a concern for the party. But he expressed confidence that defections would not fatally undermine the PDP ahead of the 2027 elections.

Meanwhile, Governor Mbah himself has repeatedly denied plans to abandon PDP. In June 2025, he told the Nigeria Guild of Editors that he remains a committed member of the party and intends to continue his work as Governor under the PDP banner.

Political watchers say the speculation around Mbah may reflect wider unease within the PDP over defections and internal cohesion. But so far, no official move has been made by Mbah to change party affiliation.
