Stakeholders in the aviation sector have appealed to the federal government to mitigate the aviation sector financial crisis by removing the “numerous charges” impeding progress in the sector.
Addressing State House Correspondents yesterday (Tuesday, October 15) after a meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa, Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace Airlines, Allen Onyema lamented that since the COVID-19 pandemic, the aviation sector has been a “turbulent arena” that needs government’s urgent intervention to steady it.
He, however, commended the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, for doing a great job to reposition the sector, urging that as a listening government which, according to him, the present administration is, the government should intervene to save the sector from collapse.
He said: “Aviation all over the world has been a turbulent arena after the COVID-19 pandemic because of the supply chain issues. This is not peculiar to Nigeria but the Nigerian government is listening to us and making sure the ease of doing business in the sector is back.
“We are here to also thank the government because they have been giving us listening ears and we want more of that, to make sure all those numerous charges we face are removed and we have every confidence that the government will do something about it.
“I have just had a session with the Vice President and everything he said is that the government is actually promoting the ease of doing business.”
Onyema testified that the present administration is promoting the ease of doing business especially in aviation, “You can see the wonderful job Festus Keyamo is doing in that end. He is performing wonders there so we are happy.”
