The Bishop of the Diocese of Ilesa and Bishop Theologian of the Church of Nigeria, the Rt. Rev. Prof. Dapo Asaju, is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at a high-level colloquium on February 26 in Lagos. The event, billed to hold at the Alliance Française de Lagos, is being organised to mark the 80th birthday of Primate Theophilus Oluwasanu Olabayo (PTOO), whose ministry has spanned decades of ecclesiastical leadership, theological scholarship and moral engagement in Nigeria’s public life.
Asaju, a respected scholar-bishop and former Vice Chancellor of Ajayi Crowther University, is expected to situate prophetic leadership within a rapidly evolving global context shaped by cultural shifts, institutional pressures and increasing expectations on faith leaders to address social, political and ethical issues beyond doctrinal teaching. The colloquium is expected to attract prominent clerics, theologians, academics and public intellectuals who will reflect on Olabayo’s enduring legacy and contributions to church leadership and national discourse.
Organisers say the event will provide a platform for critical engagement on the role of the Church in contemporary society, while celebrating the life and impact of a cleric widely regarded as a moral voice and bridge-builder within Nigeria’s Christian community.
