The Nigerian Army has announced plans to overhaul its training systems and school curricula as part of efforts to build a more professional, adaptable and combat-ready force.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, disclosed this yesterday while speaking at the closing ceremony of this year’s COAS annual conference held in Lagos. He said the planned reforms are aimed at strengthening the Army’s capacity to effectively respond to contemporary and emerging security challenges across the country.
According to the Army chief, the reforms will take off next year and will be mission-focused, ensuring that training programmes are aligned with the service’s evolving operational environment. He noted that the changing nature of warfare and internal security threats requires continuous review of training doctrines and educational content within the Army.
Lt.-Gen. Shaibu emphasised that the review of curricula across Army training institutions would prioritise professionalism, leadership development, and adaptability, while equipping personnel with the skills needed for modern military operations.
He added that the initiative underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to transformation and operational excellence, assuring that officers and soldiers would be better prepared to carry out their constitutional responsibilities of defending the nation and supporting civil authorities when required.
