​The Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) have officially pledged to deepen operational collaboration to tighten border security, enhance migration management, and neutralize emerging security threats across Yobe State.
​The strategic commitment was reached during a high-level bilateral security meeting held on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Headquarters of Sector 2 Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation HADIN KAI in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.
​Addressing newsmen immediately following the closed-door session, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for Sector 2, Captain Muhammad Ibrahim, stated that the meeting focused on resolving inter-agency gaps along border corridors and establishing real-time intelligence-sharing mechanisms.
​”The frontline dynamics in the North-East require a synchronized front,” Captain Ibrahim stated. “The Nigerian Army is ramping up joint tactical patrols with the NIS along critical border routes to preempt trans-border crime, eliminate sleeper cells, and intercept foreign infiltrators attempting to exploit porous borderlines.”
​Echoing this stance, the Public Relations Officer for the Yobe State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Chief Superintendent of Immigration (CSI) Abdullahi Umar, highlighted that joint forces would deploy improved technology and intelligence-led profiling to manage cross-border migration effectively.
Major areas agreed upon during the summit include: The Joint Border Intelligence Desk; Establishing a central operational desk to streamline the exchange of actionable threat intelligence in real time.
A Synchronized Patrol Operations by Increasing joint motorized and foot patrols along vulnerable international border entry points, particularly around Machina, Geidam, and Yunusari axes and a joint tactical training modules focusing on counter-terrorism screening, document verification, and humanitarian handling of displaced persons.
​The leadership of both services reaffirmed that the reinforced partnership will drastically reduce unauthorized cross-border movements, combat human trafficking, and deny fleeing insurgent elements safe passage within and around Yobe State.
