The Nigerian Army has announced the elimination of several high-ranking terrorist commanders in a series of coordinated operations across the North-East region.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Defence Headquarters said the operations were carried out by troops of Operation Hadin Kai, who launched precision strikes on identified terrorist enclaves in Borno and Yobe states.
According to the military, the offensive followed credible intelligence that revealed the movement and hideouts of some notorious leaders of Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP).
Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Media Operations, confirmed that air and ground forces worked in synergy to decimate the terrorists, leading to the neutralization of their key commanders alongside dozens of their fighters.
“The Nigerian Armed Forces successfully executed targeted strikes that eliminated several top terrorist commanders who have been responsible for attacks on civilians, security forces, and critical national assets. This is a significant blow to the leadership structure of the terrorist groups,” the statement read.
It added that large quantities of arms, ammunition, and logistics supplies were recovered during the operations, while surviving fighters fled with severe injuries.
Local sources in Borno State confirmed that the military bombardment caused panic within the insurgents’ ranks, forcing many of them to abandon their camps.
Defence analysts say the elimination of top commanders could weaken the operational capacity of the terror groups, but urged the military to sustain pressure to prevent regrouping.
The military reassured Nigerians of its commitment to restoring peace and stability, urging communities in the affected regions to continue cooperating by providing timely and credible intelligence.
