Renowned Argentine football scout Marcelo Houseman says he will arrive in Africa in two weeks to continue his search for emerging football talents in Nigeria and Ghana.
Houseman, who is credited with discovering several African football stars, recently secured the signature of Ghanaian teenage prospect Kelvin Nhrumah. He described Africa as a fertile ground for football talents, noting that many gifted players across the continent only require the right opportunities to showcase their abilities on the global stage.
The veteran scout said his passion for grassroots football had taken him to several African countries in search of players capable of excelling at the highest level. According to him, some of Africa’s biggest football stars were identified through similar scouting missions over the years. He cited former Nigerian international Odion Ighalo among the players he discovered, alongside Kim Ojo, Obinna Nsofor, Solomon Okoronkwo and Christian Ebere.
Houseman also highlighted his involvement in the careers of South African football legends Lucas Radebe, Doctor Khumalo, John Moshoeu and Philemon Masinga. He described Congolese striker Shabani Nonda as his greatest discovery, saying the player’s rise to the top remained one of his proudest achievements in football scouting.
The Argentine said his forthcoming visit would focus on identifying talented youngsters capable of making the transition from grassroots football to professional clubs abroad. He expressed optimism that the tour would uncover another generation of players capable of replicating the success of previous African stars, stressing that every great footballer begins somewhere and that his mission is to help hidden talents reach their full potential.
