A former All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Kwara State, Prof. Olawale Sulaiman, has expressed confidence that the party will retain the state in the 2027 general elections, citing its performance in governance.
Sulaiman, a neurosurgeon, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday. He acknowledged the economic challenges facing Nigerians but described the reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu as necessary for sustainable growth.
He said the APC had a stronger record in healthcare, education, sports infrastructure and overall development than the opposition, expressing confidence that voters would support the party based on its achievements.
The former governorship aspirant also urged Kwarans to hold elected leaders accountable, regardless of political affiliation, and called on youths and women to become more involved in demanding better public services, employment opportunities and improved infrastructure.
On the controversy surrounding the APC governorship primary, Sulaiman said party members should respect agreed processes and abide by party rules, while advocating clearer guidelines for the selection of successors to avoid future disputes.
He urged political actors to focus on addressing insecurity, unemployment, education, healthcare and infrastructure, stressing that future elections should be based on competence and the ability to solve the state’s challenges.
