The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Agege and Orile-Agege areas of Lagos State has reaffirmed that High Chief Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi and Barrister Azeez Oladapo Ninalowo emerged victorious in the party’s primaries for Agege Constituency I and Agege Constituency II respectively ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party leaders made the declaration following the conclusion of the APC primary elections conducted across the constituencies on Wednesday, insisting that the exercise was peaceful, transparent and in line with the guidelines laid down by the party leadership.
Egunjobi, the immediate past chairman of Agege Local Government, was officially declared winner of the APC primary for Agege Constituency I after polling an overwhelming 9,132 votes in the exercise monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The primary election, which was held across the five wards that make up the constituency, witnessed a massive turnout of party delegates and loyalists who participated in the voting process amid tight security and supervision by electoral officials.
According to the results announced at the end of the exercise, Egunjobi secured a landslide victory over other aspirants, reaffirming his strong political influence and grassroots support within the constituency.
His former deputy and recent past Vice-Chairman of the council, Gbenga Michael Abiola, came a distant third in the keenly contested exercise, while party officials described the outcome as a reflection of the will of APC members in the constituency.
Party leaders in Agege and Orile-Agege, while reacting to the outcome of the primaries, urged aggrieved aspirants and their supporters to accept the results in good faith and work together for the success of the party in the forthcoming elections.
Speaking after the announcement of the results, prominent APC stakeholders in the area stated that the process was credible and devoid of manipulation, adding that the party remained united despite intense political competition among aspirants.
They noted that the emergence of Egunjobi and Ninalowo would further strengthen the APC’s dominance in the area, considering their political experience, popularity and longstanding contributions to the development of the party at the grassroots level.
Egunjobi, who served as chairman of Agege Local Government, is widely regarded as one of the influential political figures in the constituency, having built a strong network of supporters during his tenure in office.
Supporters who gathered at various collation centres celebrated the outcome of the exercise, chanting party slogans and expressing confidence that the former council chairman would effectively represent the constituency if elected into the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Similarly, Barrister Azeez Oladapo Ninalowo was also affirmed as the APC candidate for Agege Constituency II following the conclusion of the primary process in his constituency.
Party faithful described Ninalowo’s emergence as a reward for loyalty, consistency and commitment to the ideals of the APC in Agege and Orile-Agege communities.
Several stakeholders who monitored the exercise commended party members for maintaining order throughout the process, despite the high level of political interest surrounding the primaries.
Political observers within the area noted that the APC primaries in Agege once again demonstrated the party’s strong grassroots structure and ability to mobilise supporters ahead of major elections.
The leaders further called on party members to close ranks and avoid actions capable of creating division within the APC, stressing that unity would be critical to retaining the party’s stronghold in the state.
They also pledged continued support for all candidates that emerged from the primary elections, promising to mobilise support across the wards to ensure victory for the APC during the general elections.
With the primaries concluded, attention is now expected to shift toward reconciliation efforts within the party as APC leaders intensify preparations for the next electoral cycle in Lagos State.
