The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and Gov. Hope Uzodimma of Imo have called for greater unity among party members in the diaspora ahead of 2027.
The call was made during a Strategic Global Diaspora Conference organised by the Directorate of Diaspora and Global Affairs of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, according to a statement issued Thursday.
The statement, signed by Henry Balogun of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors UK Media Team, said the conference focused on strengthening support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Yilwatda urged diaspora communities to remain united and actively communicate government reforms and achievements to strengthen public understanding of ongoing policy initiatives.
He also emphasised the need for structured media teams to counter misinformation, promote Nigeria’s achievements and project a positive image of the country globally.
The APC chairman further encouraged diaspora involvement in voter education, investment mobilisation and support for the programmes of President Tinubu’s administration ahead of future elections.
Uzodimma, who is Director-General of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, emphasised the importance of diaspora unity and grassroots mobilisation in support of the APC and Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna State, Deputy Director-General of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, commended Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa for facilitating the strategic engagement with party members abroad.
Sani described diaspora participation in the organisation’s activities as crucial and strategic, noting that overseas members could play a significant role in grassroots mobilisation.
“Our diaspora can effectively mobilise grassroots support and contribute in electing the President,” he said.
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard Doro, highlighted the need to connect diaspora expertise with grassroots governance and strengthen communication on government programmes.
He advocated the establishment of a strong youth-driven media team to showcase government achievements and effectively counter misinformation and negative narratives.
Chief Tayo Ayinde, Chief of Staff to the Lagos State Governor and Coordinator of Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Lagos, highlighted key economic reforms under Tinubu’s administration.
According to Ayinde, notable developments include Shell’s renewed investment interest in Nigeria, major infrastructure projects and the introduction of interest-free student loans through NELFund.
Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Dabiri-Erewa, pledged continued engagement with APC members abroad on communication and policy dissemination strategies.
APC Diaspora Coordinating Chairman, Mr Tunde Doherty, and Renewed Hope Ambassadors Operational Director, Mr Tayo Shodeinde, described the meeting as strategic for the party’s future.
Participants at the virtual session pledged support for the organisation’s objectives and promised to mobilise members across various regions toward achieving its goals.
The conference featured APC diaspora leaders and representatives from chapters worldwide and aimed to strengthen coordination for future party initiatives and engagements.
It also sought to enhance grassroots participation, develop a compendium of President Tinubu’s achievements and improve coordination between diaspora members and government officials.
According to the statement, the virtual meeting attracted more than 600 participants from Africa, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia.
