The leadership of the All Progressives Congress has indefinitely postponed its ward congress in Abia State, citing the need for further consultations and administrative preparations.
In a letter addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission, the party’s national leadership said the decision was reached after ongoing internal consultations and the need to conclude certain preparatory and administrative processes.
The statement, jointly signed by the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, and the National Secretary, Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, formally conveyed the development to the electoral body.
“The All Progressives Congress (APC) hereby formally notifies the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the suspension of the state, ward and local government congresses of the party, earlier scheduled to hold pursuant to the approved timetable of activities, until further notice,” the statement read.
Although the letter did not specify a new date for the congresses, the party assured that further information would be communicated in due course.
The postponement is expected to affect the party’s internal leadership restructuring process in Abia State, as ward, local government, and state congresses are critical in determining the composition of party executives at various levels.
As of the time of filing this report, no official reason beyond administrative and consultative considerations had been publicly disclosed for the suspension.
