A former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Yekini Nabena, has accused Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, of attempting to destabilise the ruling party’s leadership structure for personal political gain.

Speaking with journalists on Friday, Nabena dismissed suggestions that Governor Diri could add value to the APC, alleging instead that the Bayelsa governor’s recent political manoeuvres were aimed at creating division within the party’s ranks.

According to the APC chieftain, Diri’s reported outreach to some APC stakeholders in the state was a “calculated ploy” to weaken the existing leadership and advance his interests ahead of future political contests.

He said, “Governor Diri has nothing to offer the APC. His moves are not in good faith. Rather than contributing to the growth of the party, he is trying to destabilise our structures to pave the way for his own ambitions.”

Nabena, who hails from Bayelsa State, urged party members to remain vigilant and united, warning against any external influence that could disrupt the stability the APC currently enjoys in the state.

He added, “We have worked hard to build cohesion and strengthen our support base in Bayelsa. We will not allow anyone—no matter their position—to sow seeds of discord within our ranks.”

The APC stalwart also reaffirmed his loyalty to the national leadership of the party, expressing confidence that internal mechanisms were strong enough to resist infiltration or manipulation from rival political actors.
Governor Diri, who belongs to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has yet to respond to Nabena’s allegations as of the time of filing this report.
